Christmas Prophecy 18

The Messiah was to have His garments divided and lots cast for them.

Prophecy -

Psalm 22:18
They divide My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.

Fulfillment -

John 19:23-24

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece. They said therefore among themselves, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says:

“ They divided My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.”

Therefore the soldiers did these things.

The soldiers here are casting lots for the tunic. They divided the other pieces of clothing among themselves, but this tunic was special. It was woven and all one piece, it was seamless. It wasn't something you would divide, that would ruin it's worth.

Realize the shame here that Jesus endured for you and I. They stripped Him of His clothing, so that you and I would be clothed with His righteousness. (Isaiah 61:10, Psalm 51:14, Psalm 71:2, Psalm 71:15-16, and many, many more.)
